To combine the celebrations of two important historical dates in January - the acquisition of Alaska into the United States and the birthday of one of America's famous authors, Edgar Allan Poe - American Center director, Kore Gleason, will discuss the changing role of the raven in Native American folklore (as creator in many Alaskan tribes) through contemporary American poetry and literature, particularly trends caused by Edgar Allan Poe's famous attention to this special bird in his poem, "The Raven."
