Though the plays of William Shakespeare are a British national treasure, there is no dispute that the works have influenced countries across the world including the U.S. Shakespeare is often required reading in American high schools and universities, and Hollywood has not shied away from interpreting the stories with its own American entourage and twists.
Join us at the American Center this August to watch several Shakespearean plays which have been adapted to the screen.
(A couple of English-cast films have been added to the mix as well for your viewing pleasure, including last year's popular film Coriolanus.)
Monday, August 6th at 5:45p.m. A Midsummer Night`s Dream (1999, 116 min.)
Friday, August 10th at 5:45p.m. Hamlet (2000, 112 min.)
Friday, August 17th at 5:45p.m. The Tempest (2010, 110 min.)

Monday, August 27th at 5:30p.m. Coriolanus (2011, 123 min.)
Be sure, too, to let us know your opinion: do you agree with the modern and/or American interpretation? Is the film better or the text?
We'll post your answers in a special exhibit!
