The Bitter Taste of Freedom: Anna Politkovskaya and Journalism in Russia

One of Russia’s best known documentary filmmakers, Marina Goldovskaya has made over 30 documentaries as director, cinematographer, producer and writer. She has also made more than 100 programs for Russian, American and international television.
Award winning titles include: “The House on Arbat Street” (won Prix Europa & Golden Hugo Award); “The Shattered Mirror” (won Golden Gate Award) and “Solovky Power” (won Joris Ivens Special Jury Prize).
Her latest documentary, “A Bitter Taste of Truth,” has won international praise for being a moving portrait of her late friend, Anna Politkovskaya, whose 2006 murder remains a symbol for many of the state of journalism and free speech in Russia. The film is currently being shown at the ArtDocFest Documentary Festival in Moscow.
