John Coltrane was one of the most prolific and revolutionary musicians of his time. His works and musical style changed the face of jazz, and he influenced many famous artists such as Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk. Coltrane remains one of the most important jazz saxophonists in history. Dr. Mikhail Sapozhnikov (Moscow State University) will discuss the life and legacy of John Coltrane at 6p.m. on Monday, March 14.
Directly after the lecture, we invite you to the Bolshoi Zal to listen to Russia’s “leading Coltranist,” saxophonist Alexander Pishikov along with Alexei Krugli and the Krugli Band, and special guest, Oleg Yudanov, who will play a dazzling concert of Coltrane’s music. These musicians are heralded across the world for their talent and dedication to Coltrane’s music in particular.
