Please join us tomorrow (Thursday, October 11) for the begining of this year's "Getting to Know America" documentary discussion series, which will showcase award-winning documentary films that discuss important aspects of American culture. Tomorrow's discussion will center on women in sports, and you will watch a screening of "A Cinderella Season: Lady Vols Fight Back," which followed the fall and rise of the University of Tennessee's women's basketball team, who eventually won the NCAA championship (the highest honor in collegiate basketball). This team was also coached by one of the most important coaches in basketball history in the U.S., Pat Summitt. This documentary was directed/produced by Jon Alpert, who has spoken at the Center many times. Come, learn about this incredible team and enjoy a lively discussion afterward about it and women's sports.
This monthly series of screenings/discussions will be led by Olga Kravtsova, Coordinator for the Journalism Advancement and Support Center, and Fulbright alumna. Each film and discussion will focus on a different topic.
