“Darwin in the Galapagos Islands” Dr. Robert Scott Seville Associate Dean, Professor of Biology and Zoology, University of Wyoming
Join us for an exciting adventure to the Galapagos Islands! Dr. Scott Seville has conducted extensive research in the Galapagos Islands and will share his vast knowledge with you.
The Galapagos Islands are a mysterious set of 19 islands in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Ecuador. They hold an important status in biology as a unique place showcasing the various stages of evolution. The isolation of these islands has allowed fascinating animal life and biological processes to develop. It is home to the famous giant tortoise, land iguana and a series of finches, all species which inspired Charles Darwin to write his famous book, “On The Origin of Species.”
Come and listen to Dr. Seville speak about his own research on this islands. He has a long career in biology, zoology and parasitology (the study of parasites) at the University of Wyoming. Dr. Seville has received numerous awards for his research and teaching, including the University of Wyoming John P. Ellbogen Meritorious Classroom Teacher Award and was inducted in both the National Agriculture Honors Society and National Academic Honors Society. He has also spoken at several schools and colleges - and even hosted a teenager “bug-eating” workshop at his local library!
