Please join us to learn more about American music during the 1930s to 1950s! This lecture will feature several musical samples and attendees will discover the significant role American bands and crooners played in the development of American musical culture during and after World War II.
This presentation will be given by Dr. Jeffrey Prater, who is chair of the music theory division of the Music Department at Iowa State University. Dr. Prater has written over 70 works in various genres, which have been performed throughout the U.S. and internationally.
Dr. Prater is no stranger to Russia – he was a U.S. Fulbright Scholar in Kaliningrad in 2005, giving lectures on American musical culture. Dr. Prater was nominated by the Koenigsberg Foundation for the Grawemeyer Prize in Music Composition (one of the most prestigious international competitions for new musical works). In August 2005, the Kaliningrad Symphony Orchestra performed an entire concert of his recent orchestral compositions.
