"American Graphic Novels" by Christian Zabriskie Founder/CEO Urban Librarians Unite and Coordinator, Queens Library (New York)
Learn about an important genre in American literature - graphic novels - by coming to a great lecture by Christian Zabriskie, CEO/Founder of Urban Librarians Unite and Coordinator at the Queens Library in New York City. This will be an important overview of how this form of literature - narrative and sequential art- allows authors and readers to dig more deeply into stories. Many of you are already familiar with some popular graphic novels - Batman, Spiderman, Captain America - but you will learn about many more influential works and how these "superbooks" play an important role particularly in schools. This genre has also grown increasingly popular in today's age of image saturation.
Christian has worked a long time in public libraries, particularly with urban youth, and his organization - "Urban Librarians Unite" - has been praised as a unique opportunity to unite librarians from urban areas such as New York City, Chicago and many more cities. He will be visiting Moscow for the first time through the U.S. Embassy Speakers Program.
